There's 187 for shorter route. 178 is meaned to serve Marsiling residents and also, provide an alternative from Kranji MRT to Woodlands Checkpoint.

If 89 goes direct to TPE on Punggol Rd, it will lose out alot of pax.. Especially those Compassvale Sec. Students who rely on 89 to get to Hougang.. (they just dont like 27.. Razz ).

Service 74. Takes a long way from Buona Vista to Bukit Timah and vice-versa.

Service 78. Goes one big round along Pandan Rd/Tanjong Penjuru. Passengers going from West Coast Rd to Teban Gardens and vice-versa would rather take service 143.

Service 131. "Detour" into Farrer Park estate.

Service 229. For passengers boarding in Bedok South, at one point the bus is near Bedok interchange already, but still has to "detour" to ply Chai Chee. Laughing Same case for service 811.

Service 856. Goes one big round in Woodlands before reaching Senoko.

if you got the first edition of the SBS town guides, u can see the services routes on a map.. easy to spot long winded svcs.. feeder svcs are the professional bush beaters.. eg. sv800 from Chong Pang City along sembawang rd towards yishun..

sv78 have to serve penjuru ind.same as 79 to chin bee rd.
sv131, well.. also waste time at lower delta rd agree Razz
no 856, ppl walk until they happy fm senoko le Razz tho 981 is there to "help" out a bit in peak hrs. Razz

Service 856 didnt "beat about the bush" when it was still terminating at the old interchange. To reroute it would pose problems for sch kids at Marsiling/Fuchun Pri and Woodlands Ctr Rd shopping centre, as well as the mosque-goers. Those going to southern Senoko have another choice 169 and just walk in if they do not wish to pay more for s856.

fare is decided by fare stages aka distance and not adding more stops in the middles...

hmm but fare stages is by the number of stops or distance travelled which increases due to the extension of the route? not sure about this but sounds logical.

anyway i know one service that i take where the fare i pay has increased due to the change in route to make one more extra loop.

there is a service in the middle always maintain 8.5 stages for around 10 bus stops…

Fare stage is by distance travelled. 1 fare stage is about 0.8km. The fare stages coincide with specific bus stops of each route.

So, the longer the distance travelled, the more fare stages which means passengers pay a higher fare.

For example, a bus ride from Woodlands Regional interchange to Admiralty Rd West Singapore Maritime Academy. Can take either services 169 or 856. The fare is $0.85 by ezlink for service 169 while the fare is $1.15 by ezlink for service 856 due to the longer route.

take an example of: sv86, 163, 371 from SKG to jalan kayu (aft SKG west ave) 86 charged 103c, 163 charge 83c, and 371 charge 63c. fares dated 2004. also, look at sv518 bush beating within pasir ris int to dr 1 (PR park), or ex 501 and 502.. most amended services will retain the same fare stages, unless amendment is on a service end-destination, not mid-way

sv112.. sv155 also maintains stage 8.5 for direction towards MP..

if u see sv800 rt, its the worst.. from ave 5 to YIS int, iy has to go one big round into ave 7 b4 going to int, when at ave 5, its directly opposite the int..

There's service 48 from some part of Bt Timah to Buona Vista. Service 74 connects the other part of Bt Timah not served by service 48 to Buona Vista.

I think you mean IntraTown 811. Service 800 doesn't ply Yishun Ave 5.

Dun forget, those svs that was 'extended' to serve NEL stn i.e Sv 125, all their fare stages remained unchange

extending the routes waste a commuter's time, and if fare stages are increased simultaneously, it will create a uproar..

the fare stages thing, applies only to a new service, or an exisitng one, and if the svc's route is not amended at any of its 2 terminating points, the overall no. of fare stages remains the same.. changes in route midpoint, usually a small detour/deviation, will not usually cause an increase, as in the case of the NEL svcs
